In Memoriam – Brittany Murphy December 20, 2009

Brittany Murphy passed away yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 (she was only 32 and they don’t know the cause, as of yet). She was one of Paul’s favorites; I think it was the kinky hair in Clueless. He always got a kick out of her and was quite upset when he saw the announcement on the Yahoo! search page today. So, I thought Paul might appreciate a mention of her in our Blog.

I really remember her from Girl, Interrupted. I read the book and saw the movie – and remember her quite vividly. She showed a lot of grit in that film. She played Daisy Randone, a mentally ill girl with an eating disorder caused by sexual abuse. Oddly enough, I remember her because of the music that was playing in the background when she kills herself in the film – Skeeter Davis’s “End of the World.” I’ve always loved this song and had the opportunity to hear Skeeter Davis sing it at the Grand Ole’ Opry many years ago. So, from now on, whenever I hear this song I will think of Brittany Murphy.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the Clueless clip that Paul likes (bummer); so, you’ll just have to watch it on your own! It’s when Tai (Brittany Murphy) is sitting on the couch singing along to the Mentos commercial – classic! I always loved hearing Paul giggle over that! Shortly after that scene Josh says, “Be seein’ ya.” And Tai replies, “Yeah, I hope not sporadically.” Paul just starts giggling all over again! Anyone that can make Paul laugh is O.K. in my book!
Farewell, Ms. Murphy…
