So, you remember when I told you I met some great people on the tour and Mary, Doug and I headed out to lunch afterwards. Well, because I’m a nerd I actually took a picture of the dish I had! (LOL) I don’t know if it really does it any justice but Chicken Murtabak is great and I can’t wait to take Paul to this little restaurant. And, the Lime Juice was delicious – I’ve never had that before and it’s refreshing after walking around in this hot and humid climate! After lunch, we headed to Little India and took in some great sites. It was bustling on that Thursday, but I’ve been told it’s one of the busiest places in the city on Sunday afternoon – I’m thinkin’ I may not try to see that in person! Additionally, we did go into Mustafa – probably best put: “Wal-Mart & Joann’s Fabrics on Steroids.” If Doug and Mary hadn’t been there to guide me out, I think I would have been lost for days. I have never seen so many clothes irons on display for sale – probably 25! Jewelry everywhere and the sarongs, fabric and saris galore. You could also buy fresh seafood and fruit! What a bargain!
One of the last things I saw before heading to the MRT was the Sri Veeramakaliamman Hindu Temple. I don’t know if there are even words to describe the beauty and intricacy of this temple. Please enjoy the pictures below and I’ll post more about the history of this Temple after we go on the Little India Tour.
Paul and I are actually going to go on a guided walking tour of Little India next week, when he’s off – so, we’ll be able to tell you even more about this little section of S’pore. But, here are some highlights from last week:
One of the rare sites, quickly becoming extinct, is the process below of grinding spices. I was lucky to see these men grinding white pepper and chili. What a fantastic site AND the smell was just wonderful. I wish somehow I could have a scratch and sniff sticker on my blog!

Look at you with your new title graphics and pics. I would love to have seen the spices being milled. I am sure it was wonderful. You will have to let me know where you went to find all the walking tours. They sound like great fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear Paul will be out and about on a walking tour with you. At least, he will get to see the sights with you there.
Oh - thank you! You'll have to thank my friend Rebecca for this! I need to give her credit; I just put it up last night. We're thinking of making the font a little smaller, but I think it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had had time to get a video of it. Since we're heading there next week, I'll see if they are out again.
I went to visitsingpore.com and looked at their walking tours and "The Original Singapore Walking Tours" came up. http://www.journeys.com.sg/singaporewalks/index.asp I originally just wanted to get a map of a suggested route and I would walk it myself, but this came up and it was only $S22 ($15 USD)after the first tour. The groups are small and the tour guides are very knowledgeable.
We're going to Swan Lake at the Esplanade on Friday for his B-day! Should be a great night!
Poor, poor man. Having a b-day so close to Xmas would have been a nightmare as a child. Maybe he is scarred from this? I wonder if the Swan Lake will be different from the renditions here?
ReplyDeleteHe's probably recovered by now but it's only because I make such a big deal out of it. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt should be great show! The leading lady is originally from Korea; they did up an article in the paper about her.
