Pizza, Cake & Dancing Girls

I think a special day deserves a special report and so today’s posting comes to you compliments of me, Paul - the other blogger in this dynamic Duo.

Here’s the 411 on what made my day so special.

Friday’s are always good – especially after a week of too many hours at work and too few hours of sleep. But this Friday was special for reasons less obvious: pizza, cake and dancing girls.

I must say these indulgences make for a strange combination for an ordinary day but when masterfully planned and enthusiastically implemented in usual Amy style – well, this strange combination turns into a perfect birthday celebration for me.

Pizza – Amy knows I love good pizza and so my birthday dinner was pizza and Caesar salad from one of my favorite southern Italian eateries nearby. Amy opted for “take away” (the local’s way of saying “food-to-go”) so that we could dine amongst the birthday balloons, candles and assorted party favors she had assembled along with her co-conspirators from the hotel staff. What a kick!
Cake – What’s better than birthday cake? Birthday CUP-cakes! These tasty bites of chocolate decadence came to us courtesy of Gastronomia - a wonderful shop Amy discovered in her travels about town. Aside from being bite sized there is one great benefit to enjoying cupcakes on your birthday – limited surface area means fewer candles! I faced only a fraction of the 40-something candles due me thanks to this cake trickery. I conquered the candles no problem and I hardly feel a day older. Thanks Amy for helping me feel younger!

Dancing Girls – I know what you are thinking! And you should be ashamed. We are in Singapore not Las Vegas. This is a respectable place.

Friday’s dancing girls were of the ballet-kind. Several weeks ago Amy snagged tickets to this sold-out performance of Swan Lake. I know very little about ballet but I enjoyed the performance (dancing and music) and I walked away with only the highest respect for the dancing girls and guys who manage to run around stage on their toes with such elegance, poise and stamina. Wow!

As a side note, Swan Lake was held in the Esplanade, Singapore’s Performing Arts Center (see one of Amy’s first posting for a photo). Architecturally this place is just awesome and those of you who know me well know that during intermission I was checking out all the design details and taking mental notes like the design geek that I am. I never thought you could transform a giant glass egg-like structure into an acoustically-perfect concert and theatre hall. Just Awesome!

  1. I have been delayed in getting to read the antics of the Amorese duo as I have been fighting off a cold. I think I am finally getting the better of it.

I was impressed that Paul was the author of the this installment - the soap operator dost continue.

And what is it with those lips on fire? Are you sure you didn't light that inappropriately early in the evening? ;-)

  2. Hey - I was just about to email you and ask if you were okay?! I hope you're feeling better!

Yes - Paul wanted a little bit of the action (smile).

Ah Devon - you make it sound so dirty! I have a video of him blowing that candle out too but didn't post it (LOL)!!! When I see that candle, I always think of "Hot Lips" from M.A.S.H.! Am I a dork or what?!
